I am running in our electoral area for Director of Central Okanagan West because I sense a mood of discontent in this District. Many in our Community feel a sense of "disconnect" between themselves and our governing agencies.
We must have a voice in determining what our Community needs and a Director who can fulfill those needs. What we do not need is a Director who gives us what we do not need.
There is a perception that "deals" are made behind closed doors, then sprung on us without our knowledge or consent. An example is the gravel pit near La Casa. It was announced to us as a done deal. A petition against this gravel pit collected 1,000 signatures and was submitted to the appropriate authorities. It seems to no avail, as it was buried, and plans for the gravel pit are proceeding on schedule. Our repeated requests for improvements to Westside Road don't seem to be heard unless we approve the gravel pit.
Your Director has the power to influence the Provincial Government to give us road improvements, timely snow removal and a school. The North Westside has had water meters installed, and there is also a water system under construction at Upper Fintry and Valley of the Sun. Who is going to determine the water rates? Will it be revenue neutral? Will we have any say?
We need a Director who will aggressively protect our interests and take a stand for us. A Director does not "go with the flow". Rather, a good Director works cooperatively with the Regional Board and their staff to "direct" that flow to enhance our common interest. You can be assured I will do everything in my power to improve the quality of life in this District if I am elected Director.
Sincerely respectfully,
